Our feet – incredibly important, ingenious, complex and beautiful movement makers.
They contain 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than a hundred muscles, tendons and ligaments each.
Naturally, taking care of them well benefits us in many ways, including increased strength and flexibility throughout the body.
I love using a foot roller – my favourite is the Tendu – after a long walk or intense ballet class. Receiving (or giving myself) a ‘proper’ foot massage feels even better 🙂
Check out this great article by Renaissance College for some excellent foot massage/reflexology tips, and a list of benefits.
If you’d like to test the magic: gently try doing a forward fold (uttanasana) right before and after giving yourself a foot rolling session/self massage – you’ll be amazed!
If you’ve had a rough day, are feeling a bit stiff or sore, need a quick pick-me-up at the start or end of the day, want to warm up fast, or would simply like to sleep better.. try it out!
And let me know how you feel afterwards 🙂
