Speaking of doing (or doing well)..
Is there anything new you’ll be starting/creating/learning about in the next 12 months? (aka the Year of the Wooden Snake)
Or.. are there any old hobbies/interests you’ll be giving a re-try/re-boot this month?
Feel free to tell me about it in the comments below!
As for me..
This February am diving into a new (to me) hobby, while honoring a (very) old cultural tradition.
What is it? Inspired by our stay in China’s Wudang mountain last fall, I’ll be trying my hand(s) at Chinese calligraphy. 🙂
Tap the image for a brief ‘how to get started’ video.
Why?
At the moment I am learning Mandarin Chinese (using HelloChinese and DuoLingo) as it helps to deepen my practice in Chinese Martial Arts (Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Ji/ Qi Gong), which – in turn – also helps me with dance.
Also.. I used to love drawing as a little one.
So I figured.. why not combine the two?
Through practicing Chinese calligraphy, I am learning deeply about a topic I am interested in, while doing something creative, challenging and fun, in a meditative way.
Speaking of a (positive) challenge, I will be practicing calligraphy traditionally (aka with my right hand)
Which will probably prove to be interesting, as a leftie. Haha.
But also, more importantly, a great way to improve my brain/body connection (as well as practicing my patience lol.. which actually needs practice the most)
Anyhow., I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!
As for Mr. E.. he told me he is a bit nervous about living room ink spills.. I cannot blame him 🙂
Because of that, I’ll be practicing with water-writing paper first (-> Check water calligraphy in Beijing for a bit of bonus geekery) until I get the hang of things.
How about you?
Let me know what your favourite hobby(ies) is(are) right now, and how it(they) help you in daily life (and/or in dance) <3
Sending you a big warm hug,
xx Kim Khalida Bech
